National Museum Cultural Foundation Launches Five New Myuz Products
Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Liberation
Featuring the Oldest Surviving Taegukgi
The National Museum Cultural Foundation announced on July 15 that it has launched five new museum goods (Myuz) in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation.
The newly released products include the Denny Taegukgi Sticker, Denny Taegukgi Keyring, Denny Taegukgi Pen, Bangasayusang Miniature: Liberation Edition, and Longlongtime Flower: Liberation Edition, totaling five items. These products feature a modern reinterpretation of the historical Denny Taegukgi. The lineup ranges from highly durable removable stickers, fabric keyrings embroidered with the Denny Taegukgi, to premium pens adorned with figures, combining both practicality and symbolism.
In particular, the Bangasayusang Miniature: Liberation Edition is crafted in a radiant silver color, symbolizing the commemoration of Liberation Day, and depicts a figure holding a single Mugunghwa flower and a piece of the Taegukgi. Additionally, the Longlongtime Flower: Liberation Edition gains further significance through the participation of artist Nanan, well-known for the earlier Chochungdo Edition collaboration, in the design development.
The Denny Taegukgi, a treasure from the collection of the National Museum of Korea and the motif for these goods, will be exhibited in the Korean Empire Hall of the permanent exhibition at the National Museum of Korea starting July 15. The Denny Taegukgi is an artifact that Owen N. Denny (1838?1900), an American who served as a diplomatic advisor to Emperor Gojong, cherished and took with him when returning to his home country. It is believed to be the oldest surviving Taegukgi in Korea. After Denny's death, his family kept it for generations until William C. Ralston, who received it as a donation, gifted it to Korea in 1981. Measuring 262 cm in width and 182.5 cm in height, it is the largest old Taegukgi preserved in Korea and is a highly valuable cultural heritage as it bears witness to the early history of the national flag's establishment.
Jung Yongseok, President of the National Museum Cultural Foundation, stated, "It is very meaningful to introduce products inspired by the precious artifact 'Denny Taegukgi' in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation," adding, "I hope this will provide an opportunity for many people to reflect once again on our history and cultural heritage."
Meanwhile, the 80th anniversary Liberation commemorative products will be available at the offline shop and online store of the National Museum of Korea starting July 15.
