"Teaching Practical Skills to Support Independence"
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sangkeun) operated a port vocational training program to support stable job-seeking activities for self-reliant young people who leave welfare facilities and enter society on their own.
This program was held for five days from July 7 to July 11. The participants were self-reliant young people who had turned 18 and whose protection had ended at child care facilities. BPA provided them with intensive training in practical skills that can be utilized in port workplaces.
The port vocational training was conducted in collaboration with the Korea Port Training Institute Incheon Training Center, and consisted of practical forklift and excavator operation training as well as theoretical education. After completing the program, graduates can obtain a small construction machinery operator's license, and all related costs are covered by Busan Port Authority.
BPA has been continuously operating this program since 2021, and including three graduates this year, has provided vocational training opportunities to a total of 23 self-reliant young people so far. The purpose is to provide a practical foundation for young people preparing to enter society, going beyond simple technical education.
Song Sangkeun, President of Busan Port Authority, emphasized, "As a public institution, we will do our utmost to ensure that young people preparing for independence, even in difficult circumstances, can confidently establish themselves as members of the local community."
