Over 100 Performers from the Damyang Gunmin Orchestra and Choir
to Take the Stage at Damyang Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater on July 19
Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jeong Cheolwon) announced on July 15 that it will hold the regular concert "Summer in Damyang, Colored by Classics" at 4:00 p.m. on July 19 at the Damyang Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater.
This performance is a community participation stage organized by the association Nurim (Chairman Jeong Segi) and supported by South Jeolla Province, the South Jeolla Cultural Foundation, and Damyang County as part of the "2025 Performance Venue Cooperative Arts Group Support Project." Admission is free for all seats and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis without prior reservation.
The main performers, the Damyang Gunmin Orchestra, are a community-based orchestra composed of local residents from elementary school students to people in their 60s. About 30 members practice regularly every Saturday, and the orchestra has established itself as a cultural community that connects generations and neighbors through music.
This regular concert will also feature the Damyang Gunminkkumkium Dream Orchestra (youth) and the Damyang Women's Choir (adults), bringing together a total of about 100 performers on stage when combining the orchestra and choir. As a large-scale joint performance that spans generations, it is expected to deliver a rich and moving musical experience to the audience.
The program consists of songs that can resonate with people of all ages. The repertoire includes children's favorites such as "The Octopus's Dream," "Merry-Go-Round of Life," and "Always With Me," as well as songs familiar to adult audiences such as "Don't Worry Dear," "You Raise Me Up," "My Old Story," "Island Baby," and "Life," presented through both orchestral performance and choral singing.
Governor Jeong Cheolwon stated, "This is an open stage that all county residents can enjoy together," adding, "I hope this performance will broaden the cultural base of the region and become an opportunity for everyone to understand each other more deeply through music."
