Ottogi Launches Government-Certified "Grade 1 Honey" under Honey Grading System

Two Types of Honey: Acacia and Wildflower

Ottogi Launches Government-Certified "Grade 1 Honey" under Honey Grading System

Ottogi announced on July 15 that it has launched two premium "Grade 1 Honey" products?Acacia and Wildflower?that have received Grade 1 certification under the Honey Grading System.

The "Honey Grading System," which has been fully implemented since 2023, is a certification system for domestically produced natural honey. It evaluates various process factors that affect quality during honey production and packaging, and inspects the quality of the honey to determine its grade. The system comprehensively examines factors such as moisture content, HMF (Hydroxy Methyl Furfural), and flavor, providing consumers with reliable quality standards.

The newly released "Grade 1 Honey" products have proven their purity by achieving carbon isotope ratio values?one of the core evaluation criteria of the Honey Grading System?of -25‰ or less for Acacia honey and -24‰ or less for Wildflower honey. The carbon isotope ratio is an indicator used to determine the purity of honey by analyzing the carbon content, with lower values indicating higher purity. This metric is also used to distinguish between natural and artificial honey. In addition, these products are managed according to a stricter standard than the 1+ grade/Grade 1 criteria of the Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation, which is set at -23.5‰ or less.

The Grade 1 Honey is produced by the Korea Beekeeping Agricultural Cooperative, the largest honey-specialized cooperative in Korea established in 1961. With extensive experience and expertise, the cooperative ensures strict quality control to preserve the rich, original taste and aroma of honey. The products are available in two sizes: 500g and 900g.

An Ottogi representative commented, "Grade 1 Honey was developed in response to consumer demand for trustworthy, government-certified domestic honey. We worked together with beekeeping farms to obtain certification under the Honey Grading System," adding, "Going forward, we will continue to promote high-quality domestic honey consumption and resolve consumer distrust regarding honey quality through close cooperation with local farms."
