Smak Completes Acquisition of WIA Machine Tools, Declares Leap Toward Industry Leadership

Smak, a company specializing in machine tool and robot automation solutions, announced on July 15 that it has completed the deal closing for the acquisition of WIA Machine Tools (formerly the machine tool division of Hyundai WIA). With this, the company has officially entered the post-acquisition value creation phase and declared its ambition to become an industry leader.

Smak Completes Acquisition of WIA Machine Tools, Declares Leap Toward Industry Leadership

This acquisition was carried out in the form of a consortium, jointly promoted by Smak through its subsidiary HMT Solution and the private equity fund Rilson Private Equity. The total acquisition price was 340 billion KRW. Of this, Smak invested 118.3 billion KRW (34.8% stake), while Rilson PE invested 221.7 billion KRW (65.2% stake).

Smak secured part of the acquisition funds through a successful rights offering of approximately 43.5 billion KRW completed in June, enabling the transaction while maintaining a stable financial structure.

Smak plans to participate in 'EMO 2025,' the world's largest machine tool exhibition to be held in Hanover, Germany in September, with its largest-ever presence. At this exhibition, the company will focus on showcasing new product lineups and high-performance equipment, and will aggressively target overseas markets such as Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.

This is a strategy to expand its presence beyond the domestic market and into the global machine tool industry. As a comprehensive machine tool company equipped with technology, a diverse product portfolio, and a strong customer base, Smak aims to build capabilities that will allow it to compete with leading global brands. In particular, the company plans to increase direct contact with global top-tier manufacturing customers by expanding its overseas sales network and strengthening its localization capabilities.

A Smak representative stated, "This acquisition will serve as an opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic machine tool industry," and added, "With this, we have officially begun our leap toward establishing a 'top two' system in the domestic machine tool field."

Starting with this transaction, Smak plans to evolve beyond a simple manufacturing company and become a high value-added equipment company targeting the global market.
