"Glocal Era, Busan Rises as a Central Axis"... BISTEP Publishes Summer Issue of Science and Technology Journal "Technology Innovation and Future Busan"

Providing Information on Busan's Innovation Strategies in the Era of 'Global and Local' Themed Singularities

Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion for Higher Education (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu), the organization responsible for science and technology policy in Busan, has published the summer issue (Issue No. 13) of its quarterly journal specializing in regional science, technology, and industrial policy, titled "Technology Innovation and Future Busan."

This issue, which marks the journal’s relaunch in 2025, focuses on the central theme of "Glocalization," highlighting Busan's innovation strategies and responses to future science and technology policy challenges.

"Technology Innovation and Future Busan" was previously published by BISTEP from 2016 to 2018 as a specialized periodical, spreading awareness of region-based science and technology issues and proposing policy alternatives. In response to rapidly changing policy environments, the institute has completely revamped its planning and editorial direction, and is officially resuming publication starting this year.

The summer issue takes a multifaceted approach to key challenges facing the region, including technological hegemony competition, talent outflow, and fostering new industries. In particular, it presents region-focused response strategies based on global science and technology issues such as RISE (Regional Innovation-led University Support System), Horizon Europe, and the Deep Seek AI shock.

Contributors to this issue include Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP; Min Kyungchan, Professor Emeritus at Yonsei University; Joo Hyejeong, Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Planning and Evaluation; Yoon Junghyun, Research Fellow at the Institute for National Security Strategy; Lee Myunghwa, Director at the Science and Technology Policy Institute; Lee Junhyun, President of Busan RISE Innovation Institute; Yoo Uiseon, Center Director at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade; and Jung Sungmun, Professor at Dong-A University, among other experts from various fields.

These experts analyze the potential for regional innovation and the direction of science and technology-based policy, offering strategic recommendations for Busan’s future.

Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, stated, "In the glocal era, Busan must no longer remain on the periphery but should rise as a central axis leading regional innovation," adding, "BISTEP will further strengthen its science and technology-based response capabilities and implementation systems as a think tank for future strategy development."
