Gyeonggi Province has finalized the selection of 13 garden works to be exhibited at the 13th Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo, which will be held at the Pyeongtaek Agricultural Ecology Center in October. The selected works include seven artist gardens and six lifestyle (outdoor) gardens.
Gyeonggi Province previously decided on the exhibition works through a document review, presentation evaluation, and public verification process, after receiving a total of 86 entries through a nationwide contest in June. In the lifestyle garden category, there were no selected works in the indoor garden field.
The selected artist gardens are: Seopddeul, Neolda, Geotda, Mareuda, Messenger's Garden, Garden of Symbiosis, Time of Balance, A Pause in the Margin, The Last Garden, and Yuyeong: The Flow of Life that is Contained, Flows, and Blooms.
The lifestyle (outdoor) gardens are: KOMOREBI: Nature Permeated, Gently Under the Shade, Choeum: Pyeongtaek's Natural Frequency, Noeuldamjeong (Garden Embracing the Sunset), Garden Walking Through Time, and The Heart Left Behind, totaling six works.
The selected gardens will be constructed as 150-square-meter artist gardens (with a construction budget of 50 million won) and 12-square-meter lifestyle gardens (with a construction budget of 3 million won).
The works will be on public display during the expo, from October 16 to 19.
Gyeonggi Province will determine the final rankings at the opening ceremony on October 17 and present awards totaling 16 million won. After the expo, the gardens will remain as public rest areas for citizens to freely enjoy.
Lee Jeongsoo, Director of the Garden Industry Division at Gyeonggi Province, said, "Through this contest, there were many innovative attempts by artists to express regional characteristics and ecological values in the language of gardens. We will continue to prepare so that highly completed gardens can be presented to residents by working closely with the artists during the on-site construction process."
