According to CNN on July 14 (local time), former President Obama made these remarks during a closed-door fundraising event held in New Jersey on July 11. He stated that Democratic supporters dissatisfied with the state of America under the Trump administration must not lose their resolve.

Former President Obama stressed, "Don't tell me, 'I'm a Democrat but I'm so disappointed right now that I'm not doing anything.' That's not acceptable. Right now is the time for you to take action."

He continued, "You can't say you value freedom of expression and then remain silent. You must defend freedom of expression even when it's uncomfortable. Even if someone says something you don't like, you have to say, 'That person has the right to speak.' What we need now is courage," he added.

CNN interpreted former President Obama's remarks as significant, noting that they come at a time when the Democratic Party is considering its direction following Trump's second term.

Currently, within the Democratic base, there are growing calls for the opposition Democratic Party to take a tougher stance against the Trump administration, and internal discussions are ongoing about who should be put forward as the next leader.

Former President Obama urged supporters to lend their support to the gubernatorial elections being held in New Jersey and Virginia. He emphasized, "Don't look for easy solutions or try to make someone a savior. There are already many excellent candidates running in the elections. Support those candidates."
