90 Parking Spaces Created in Ocheon-ri Commercial Area

On July 14, the city of Icheon in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will open two public parking lots, located in the commercial area of Ocheon-ri, Majang-myeon, for free use starting July 15.

Icheon to Open Two 'Public Open Parking Lots' in Majang-myeon for Free Use Starting July 15

The two public parking lots being opened free of charge are located at 448-6 and 450-8 Ocheon-ri, offering 39 and 51 parking spaces, respectively. Both parking lots will be available free of charge for the next two years.

A public open parking lot refers to a privately owned idle space that is made available to citizens free of charge for a certain period. Landowners receive property tax exemption benefits. This is the first time such public open parking lots have been established in Icheon.

The city explained that this project is advantageous because it reduces construction costs compared to traditional public parking lots. While a typical public parking lot costs more than 100 million won per parking space, this method utilizes private land free of charge, resulting in a construction cost of only 600,000 won per space.

The city plans to conduct a demand survey for public open parking lots in each eup, myeon, and dong to secure additional sites for public open parking lots in residential and commercial areas.

Kim Kyunghee, Mayor of Icheon, said, "This project is the city's first model of a public open parking lot," adding, "It will serve as a good example of solving local issues in cooperation with the private sector."
