Whole Chickens and Watermelons Cheaper Than 10 Years Ago
Ready-to-Eat Samgyetang at the Lowest Price Ever
Emart announced on July 15 that it will hold an unprecedented Chobok (beginning of the hottest period of summer) promotion.
From July 17 to 20, Emart will sell a pack of 'two whole chickens' for 3,980 won when purchased with a promotional card. This means the price per chicken is less than 2,000 won.
This price is even lower than the Chobok promotional price from 10 years ago. In July 2015, Emart sold two young chickens for Chobok at the special price of 3,990 won. Emart is offering a lower price than its event 10 years ago to provide even greater benefits to customers. This is part of its price investment strategy.
Emart began preparations for this Chobok event six months in advance. Considering that it takes about a month to raise broiler chickens, the company started procuring chickens in May. In order to secure the largest quantity ever, Emart meticulously managed every step from production to shipment.
Watermelons, which have seen sharp price increases due to the heatwave, will also be sold at prices lower than 10 years ago. On July 17, Emart will sell a 'whole watermelon' for 9,900 won. This is cheaper than the July 2015 price of 10,800 won.
Emart secured 30,000 watermelons by increasing the number of contract farms in major production areas such as Nonsan, Gochang, and Iksan. By leveraging economies of scale through integrated purchasing across Emart, Traders, and Everyday, the company was able to minimize prices.
'Ready-to-eat Samgyetang' will be sold for 3,980 won from July 17 to 28 when Shinsegae Points are earned. Emart has prepared the largest quantity ever at the lowest price ever, and to ensure more customers can benefit, purchases are limited to five per person.
Jung Woojin, head of marketing at Emart, stated, "Emart will continue to provide products that customers truly need at affordable prices through various initiatives, while faithfully fulfilling our core mission of stabilizing grocery prices for our customers."
