Navigation Systems to Broadcast Safety Alerts... Seoul Police to Provide Accident Prevention Voice Guidance

From now on, navigation systems in Seoul will provide voice alerts about safety accidents when making left or right turns at intersections.

On July 15, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it will collaborate with navigation service providers Tmap Mobility and Kakao Mobility to broadcast accident prevention messages when drivers enter intersections to make left or right turns.

The goal is to enhance driver awareness and prevent traffic accidents. In fact, between 2022 and 2024, 20% (121 out of 606) of traffic fatalities in Seoul occurred during left or right turns.

Tmap Mobility will begin broadcasting accident prevention voice alerts at intersections by the end of this month, while Kakao Mobility will start in early next month. As of July 2025, the cumulative number of subscribers to Tmap Mobility's navigation app Tmap and Kakao Mobility's KakaoNavi app stands at 25 million and 27 million, respectively.

Additionally, the police will take measures to eradicate signal violations by two-wheeled vehicles. Banners encouraging black box public reporting will be posted at 156 major intersections throughout Seoul, and in cooperation with the Seoul Facilities Corporation, these messages will also be displayed on 50 variable message signs (VMS).

A police official stated, "By repeatedly broadcasting these messages through navigation service providers, we aim to raise public safety awareness and prevent traffic accidents."
