Lee Gaeho to Visit India for Four Days as Presidential Special Envoy

Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Gaeho (representing Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, and Jangseong in South Jeolla Province) announced on July 14 that he will visit India as a special envoy of President Lee Jaemyung from July 16 to 19, for a four-day, three-night schedule.

During his visit, Lee will hold meetings with key figures including President Droupadi Murmu of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. He plans to convey President Lee Jaemyung's gratitude for Prime Minister Modi's congratulatory message on the inauguration of the Lee administration and deliver a personal letter from President Lee.

Lee will also respond to Prime Minister Modi's social media message expressing hope for the strengthening of the special strategic partnership between Korea and India. He intends to communicate Korea's strong commitment to advancing bilateral relations at the summit level and to maintaining close communication, as well as to exchange views on expanding comprehensive cooperation in areas such as defense industry and national defense, core technologies, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

In particular, Lee plans to explain to the Indian side the significance of the June 3 presidential election, which demonstrated the resilience of Korean democracy; Korea's foreign policy direction aimed at becoming a global power that responds pragmatically to changes in the world order; and Korea's approach to resolving the North Korean nuclear issue and establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The special envoy delegation to India will be led by former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, accompanied by Lee and Song Soonho, co-chair of the election committee. Meanwhile, attention is being drawn to the background of Lee's appointment as special envoy to India, as the president typically selects highly trusted individuals for such positions.
