The notice reads, "The glass cups are for beverages and alcohol only. This means they are not provided for drinking Sikhye or Sujeonggwa." Another notice states, "Sikhye·Sujeonggwa: Glass cups are not allowed! You know which ones are glass cups, right?" It continues, "Could it be that you really don't know? If you want to use one, do your own dishwashing." Additionally, it says, "You, who lack consideration, are recorded on CCTV as evidence. We can see everything. It's exhausting to keep saying it. Please do not use them."
Based on the notices, it appears that the restaurant provides Sikhye and Sujeonggwa as complimentary drinks and requests that customers use stainless steel cups for them. Netizens had mixed reactions to the notice. Those critical of the owner pointed out that referring to paying customers as "you" or telling them to "do your own dishwashing" was inappropriate.
One netizen commented, "I assume 'beverages' refers to carbonated drinks, but is there really any difference when washing cups used for soda versus those used for Sujeonggwa or Sikhye? If they were limiting the number of cups per person, that would make sense, but this is just a strange place." Another said, "I can understand prohibiting it, but saying 'If you want to use it, do your own dishwashing' is just rude." On the other hand, some netizens said, "Customers must have been so inconsiderate that the owner had to put up such a notice," and "If you run a business, you can understand why someone would put up a sign like that, even knowing it might cause controversy."
One netizen, who also runs a restaurant, said, "From the customer's perspective, it can definitely be upsetting," but added, "From the restaurant's perspective, Sikhye, yujacha, and Sujeonggwa contain sugar and particles that, once they start to dry, are difficult to clean and require careful scrubbing. Some might wonder if plastic cups are not washed properly, but plastic cups can be soaked and washed all together, while glass cups often get chipped when washed in batches, which is a source of stress for the owner."
