Special Prosecutor to Request Digital Forensic Analysis from Supreme Prosecutors' Office
It has been confirmed that former President Yoon Sukyeol's side received a request from the Chae Sangbyeong special prosecutor's team to provide the password for his mobile phone, which was seized during a search and seizure operation, but did not cooperate with the request.
Former President Yoon Sukyeol is entering the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 9th to attend a detention hearing (warrant review). The hearing will be presided over by Chief Judge Nam Sejin (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 33), who is in charge of warrants. According to the Chae Sangbyeong special prosecutor's team on the 14th, former President Yoon refused to provide the password for his seized iPhone.
The special prosecutor's team plans to hand over the mobile phone to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to request digital forensic analysis. Since iPhones are known for their high level of security, it is expected that the investigation will face difficulties if the password lock cannot be bypassed, as forensic analysis would be virtually impossible.
Previously, the special prosecutor's team conducted a search and seizure of former President Yoon's residence and other locations, during which they secured several mobile phones. A member of the special prosecutor's team stated, "Passwords were provided for some of the mobile phones we secured, and for those for which passwords were not provided, we will proceed with forensic analysis."
