Busan City: "Difficult to Identify with CCTV, Police Investigation Requested"

While National Park Designation Is Underway... "Geumjeong" Glued Over "Godang" on Summit Marker A paper with the word "Geumjeong" is attached to the Geumjeong Mountain Godangbong summit marker stone in Busan. Citizens' Geumjeong Mountain Preservation Society

An incident occurred in which the summit marker stone at Godangbong Peak of Geumjeong Mountain in Busan, which is currently being considered for designation as a national park, was vandalized. Someone attached a piece of paper with writing on it to the marker using glue.

On the 14th, Geumjeong District in Busan announced that it had received a report on the morning of the 11th that the summit marker stone at Godangbong Peak of Geumjeong Mountain had been damaged. The marker stone is engraved with the word "Godangbong," but someone had glued a yellow piece of paper with "Geumjeong" written on it over the "Godang" part of the inscription.

By the time district office staff arrived at the site around 2 p.m. that same day, the paper with the writing had already been removed. However, it is reported that part of the lettering's color was stripped off due to the adhesive. Residue from the glue and other substances remains on the marker stone, and the district plans to have it professionally cleaned and restored.

An official from Geumjeong District stated, "There is no closed-circuit (CC) TV at the site, so it is difficult to identify the perpetrator," and added, "We are considering requesting a police investigation."

Meanwhile, the city of Busan is in the process of designating approximately 73,000 square kilometers of Geumjeong Mountain as a national park. Geumjeong Mountain is home to 1,782 species of organisms, including 13 endangered species such as otters and Eurasian sparrowhawks. It also features 60 natural scenic resources, including unique rock formations and wetlands, as well as 105 cultural assets, making it one of Busan's most prominent mountains.
