Mother in Her 60s and Son in Their 40s Found Dead
Multiple Notices of Utility Disconnection and Overdue Bills Discovered
Police Suspect Financial Hardship
A mother in her 60s and her son in his 40s were found dead in their home in Daejeon approximately 20 days after their deaths.
According to the Daejeon Seobu Police Station on July 13, a report was received on July 9 from the management office of an apartment in Seo-gu, Daejeon, stating that there was a strange odor coming from one of the units. When the apartment was forcibly opened, the bodies of the mother in her 60s and her son in his 40s were found inside a room.
Based on the degree of decomposition of the bodies and footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) near the residence, the police estimated that the two died in mid-June. The police stated that autopsies revealed no signs of homicide and there was no evidence of intrusion by an outsider.
The police also noted that several notices regarding power and water disconnection were found in the home at the time, and they suspect that the family had been experiencing financial difficulties.
