Gangseo Sports Park Indoor Gymnasium to Become Home Stadium
With the addition of a men's volleyball team, Busan now has all four major professional sports teams.
On July 14 at 11 a.m., the Busan Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Heongjoon) will sign a home city agreement with the OK Savings Bank Wootmen professional volleyball team (team owner Choi Yoon) in the small conference room at Busan City Hall. The signing ceremony will be attended by Mayor Park Heongjoon, team owner Choi Yoon, general manager Kwon Cheolgeun, and head coach Shin Youngcheol, among others.
Under this agreement, the OK Wootmen volleyball team will be based in Busan starting from the 2025-2026 season. The home stadium will be the indoor gymnasium within the Gangseo Sports Park, which the city plans to fully renovate to help the team establish itself successfully.
Busan City and the team have agreed to cooperate on revitalizing the local economy, expanding healthy leisure opportunities for citizens, and developing sports culture through this agreement. With the relocation, men's professional volleyball will be held in Busan as the central city in the Yeongnam region for the first time.
The city expects this relocation to energize the economy in western Busan and provide citizens with high-quality opportunities to watch professional volleyball. In addition, it anticipates that this will serve as an opportunity to expand the base of volleyball in the region, including nurturing youth volleyball and increasing club activities.
Currently, Busan has 13 volleyball teams at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, over 200 club teams, and more than 1,700 club members. Based on this foundation, the city plans to expand events and programs in connection with the professional team to promote both recreational and elite sports.
Mayor Park Heongjoon emphasized, "Busan has become a city with all four major professional sports teams, allowing citizens to enjoy a variety of sports throughout all four seasons. We will provide full support so that the OK Wootmen volleyball team can become a beloved and prestigious club in Busan."
