According to the city, this market, held every Sunday at the rest area in the direction of Sejong on the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway, is bustling with activity, attracting around 1,000 visitors each time. After a pilot operation, the market officially opened in May and has since been held nine times, generating sales of over 40 million won, which demonstrates its stable establishment.
Currently, five local farms are participating in the market. The city especially provides a stable sales channel for vulnerable groups such as women and elderly farmers through this market.
The products for sale include fresh vegetables and flowers that change with the seasons. Consumers are highly satisfied as they can purchase high-quality agricultural products at reasonable prices through direct transactions.
The city is also utilizing this rest area as a channel to promote local tourism information. On large screens installed on the first floor in both directions of the rest area, the city is showing 3D animations featuring its mascot, Joayong, along with tourism promotional videos. On the third floor business lounge, local tourism maps and brochures are provided.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "The Local Food Direct Market at the rest area provides local farms with opportunities for stable income and offers citizens and visitors fresh, high-quality agricultural products. We will continue to promote the excellence of local agricultural products and implement various policies to make it easier for consumers to purchase quality produce."
