Held Over Four Weeks at Gimhae Yulha Library
Lectures by Experts in Law, Philosophy, and Sociology
The Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) Women's Studies Institute announced on the 14th that it will hold a public lecture series in August under the theme "We Live Together: Stories of Gender, Ecology, and Everyday Life."
This lecture series will take place every Wednesday from August 6 to August 27, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the seminar room of Gimhae Yulha Library, for a total of four sessions. Organized as part of the PNU Startup-10 project, the program is operated in collaboration with Gimhae City Library and is open to local citizens.
The lectures will explore, from a humanities perspective, the intersection of gender, ecology, and everyday life, focusing on the value of "care" for the coexistence of humans and life in the era of climate crisis. Experts from various fields, including law, philosophy, sociology, and history, will participate as speakers.
The first lecture, "Strangeness and Familiarity, and Each Other's Stories," will be given by Kim Sujin, a lecturer at the Pusan National University Law Research Institute, on August 6. This will be followed by: ▲ August 13, "Care, Labor, and Dependence" by Lee Sugyeong, lecturer in philosophy at Pusan National University; ▲ August 20, "Communities of Care: Imagining Beyond Family" by Choi Nahyun, lecturer at the Pusan National University Women's Studies Institute; and ▲ August 27, "The History of Syphilis Through Love and Fear" by Kim Junghwa, lecturer in history education at Pusan National University.
Registration for the lectures is available in advance on the Gimhae City Public Reservation Portal starting July 16, and anyone can attend free of charge.
A representative from the Pusan National University Women's Studies Institute stated, "This lecture series will serve as an opportunity to reflect on care, solidarity, and coexistence among humans amid the climate crisis and uncertainty," adding, "It is highly meaningful as a community-based humanities program that encourages reflection and change in everyday life."
