Prime Minister Kim Minseok commented on the medical students' declaration to return, saying, "It is fortunate that we have made significant progress," and added, "We will seek a path to a fruitful outcome."
On July 13, through Facebook, Prime Minister Kim stated, "The medical community and the National Assembly have declared the return of medical students and requested the government's cooperation," expressing his views accordingly.
Prime Minister Kim emphasized, "Ultimately, the will of the people is what matters," and continued, "It is time for the medical community, the National Assembly, and the government to look into the issue more deeply so that the public can help resolve the problem."
He further added, "The President has been continuously contemplating solutions and has instructed the government, including myself, to find a way. The pain caused by the so-called forced increase of 2,000 medical school admissions was too great and deep for everyone. I hope this weekend marks the beginning of recovery for all citizens."
President Lee Jaemyung, following Prime Minister Kim's inauguration on July 7, called for active resolution of the medical conflict, and Prime Minister Kim immediately sought solutions, including meeting with representatives of residents and medical students.
Additionally, regarding preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Gyeongju, Prime Minister Kim said, "Over the next approximately 100 days of preparation, we will proceed in a way that keeps the public informed," and reported, "Currently, accommodations and event venues are under construction, programs are being planned, and services are being prepared."
He also stated, "We must aim for perfection by mid-September so that in the final month, we can refine everything again and again and then invite the world. At every point of concern, I will seek the wisdom of the people."
