Hong Sungju, Daegu Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, visited a construction site on July 11 to inspect the implementation of heatwave response measures at construction sites and to directly check the status of worker protection measures.

This visit was prompted by the unprecedented heatwave, with the average temperature in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region reaching 23.3 degrees Celsius in June, the highest ever recorded since meteorological observations began. As a result, ensuring the health and safety of construction workers has emerged as a more critical issue than ever before.

This inspection was part of Daegu City's ongoing on-site management activities for construction sites. The city focused on verifying the effectiveness of worker protection measures such as rest breaks during heatwaves, provision of cooling supplies, and emergency response systems, and aimed to refine the overall response system.

Hong Sungju, Daegu Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, stated, "Responding to heatwaves is not just about securing facilities; the core is to create a work environment where workers can actually work safely and healthily. I urge all site personnel to strictly adhere to the heatwave response guidelines," adding, "Special attention and meticulous management are required to ensure that vulnerable groups, such as foreign workers, are not overlooked in terms of safety."

Meanwhile, since the heatwave crisis alert was raised to the 'Warning' level on July 7, Daegu City has been intensifying joint inspections with district offices and operating a daily situation reporting system, making all-out efforts to respond to the heatwave.

Going forward, Daegu City plans to continue strengthening on-site monitoring at construction sites, actively promoting heatwave prevention guidelines, and protecting vulnerable workers as part of a multifaceted and systematic response to the prolonged heatwave.
