Operation of "Suncheon, Following the Order of Heaven"
Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu), announced that it will officially launch the "2025 Hyanggyo and Seowon National Heritage Utilization Project," focusing on traditional Confucian culture, from July 7 to August 30 at Suncheon Hyanggyo and Okcheon Seowon.
This year’s program, under the theme "Suncheon, Following the Order of Heaven," has been designed to allow citizens to see, hear, and experience traditional heritage and appreciate its value. The program consists of three main themes: ▲Suncheon Hakdang ▲A Day in the New Life ▲Okcheon Tour.
"Suncheon Hakdang" aims to deepen understanding of local heritage through lectures on the history and traditions of Suncheon Hyanggyo, participation in the Sajikje ritual, and activities such as creating "Gangnam Akbu," a modern interpretation of traditional record culture.
"A Day in the New Life" is an experiential program for children and teenagers, offering various activities such as wearing Confucian scholar attire, traditional games, and making EM mud balls. In addition, storytelling based on the lives of Confucian scholars Kim Gweongpil and Maegye Jo Wi will add further interest.
"Okcheon Tour" features a plogging program exploring the areas around Okcheon Seowon and Suncheon Hyanggyo, as well as a coloring book activity highlighting local landmarks. In particular, the coloring book, which weaves together nine heritage sites including Daeseongjeon, Myojeongbi, Zelkova tree, Imcheongdae, and Palmabi into a single narrative, has received an enthusiastic response from citizens.
A city official stated, "Hyanggyo and Seowon are not just cultural assets, but precious resources that embody the roots and spirit of the community," adding, "We hope this program will become a hands-on educational opportunity where children and families can enjoy and learn together."
