The police will conduct intensive day and night crackdowns to eradicate drunk driving during the summer vacation season.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it will implement a special crackdown on drunk driving from July 14, 2025, to August 24, 2025.
Each local police station will carry out at least two large-scale drunk driving crackdowns per week, and will also conduct mobile checkpoints by frequently changing the locations of inspections.
In key areas such as Hangang Park, entrances and exits of expressways, and entertainment districts, surprise inspections will be conducted not only during late-night hours but also in the morning and afternoon.
Although the number of traffic accidents caused by drunk driving is decreasing, this crackdown is being conducted to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving, which can become more lax during the summer vacation period. In fact, in the first half of 2025, there were 1,817 drunk driving traffic accidents in Seoul, a decrease compared to 2,101 cases during the same period last year.
A police official stated, "Drunk driving is a serious crime that threatens the safety of all citizens, so we will continue to carry out intensive crackdowns without exception throughout the summer."
