There are concerns that the 'Chungjang SangSang Cube,' currently being promoted in Dong-gu, Gwangju, may be operated hastily with inadequate internal content.

According to the Gwangju Donggu Council on July 11, Councilor Park Hyunjung (Progressive Party, District A) stated during a district administration inquiry on July 10, "If the 'Chungjang SangSang Cube,' scheduled for completion in April next year, proceeds as it is, there is a high possibility of failure," and added, "The process of developing internal content must be reconsidered from the beginning."

Councilor Park pointed out, "Currently, both 'Chungjang 22' and 'Traveler's House,' which are operated under private consignment by Dong-gu, have seen a sharp decline in visitors every year, yet the district has not conducted proper audits." She further stated, "In the case of 'Chungjang 22,' 16 out of 20 residency spaces for local artists remain vacant and are being used as accommodations by other organizations, while the number of annual visitors to 'Traveler's House' is decreasing by 10,000 each year."

She continued, "For 'Chungjang SangSang Cube,' the internal content does not match its name, and even this content has been reduced by half compared to the original plan. A movie theater was included as internal content without any consultation with Gwangju Theater or the Independent Film Theater. A thorough review is necessary."

Additionally, she said, "It is problematic that only one company, which does not sufficiently meet the qualification requirements as an operator of the cultural complex facility 'Chungjang SangSang Cube,' applied and was selected as the trustee. Since the contract has not yet been signed, it is necessary to re-announce the bid and select a trustee through competition among companies that fully meet the qualifications."
