Chonnam National University announced on the 11th that its Admissions Office hosted the launch ceremony for the 'Jidaesa (Let's Love Local Universities)' campaign, a primer for the Lee Jaemyung administration's 'Make 10 Seoul National Universities' initiative, as well as the appointment ceremony for admissions ambassadors.
The event, held on the 7th at Yongbong Hall of Chonnam National University, was attended by President Lee Geunbae, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Lee Jungseon, National Assembly member Kim Sangwook, executives of the Chonnam National University Alumni Association, representatives of the Gwangju High School Student Council, the Parents' Association, and Yang Jieun, winner of 'Miss Trot 2' and a 2008 graduate of the Department of Korean Traditional Music, among other distinguished guests from various sectors.
'Jidaesa (Let's Love Local Universities)' is a campaign jointly promoted by the Council of Admissions Directors of National Flagship Universities. It was launched as a policy for balanced education to revitalize local universities facing a crisis due to a sharp decline in the school-age population and the concentration of resources in the Seoul metropolitan area, and to prevent the extinction of local communities.
The highlight of the event was the appointment ceremony and congratulatory performance by alumna Yang Jieun (Class of 2008, Department of Korean Traditional Music) as Honorary Admissions Ambassador. In addition, appointment certificates were presented to Ryu Hyekyung, President of the Alumni Association; Oh Hyungseok, Chair of the Alumni Association Board; Jo Seonghee, former President of the Alumni Association; Shin Seunghwan, President of the Student Council; and Kim Kyungseo, President of the General Club Association, each representing their respective organizations.
This year, a total of 131 students from various majors were selected as Chonnam National University ambassadors. They are currently visiting high schools in the Honam region to introduce university majors and provide career mentoring. To strengthen their capabilities, the university held the '1st Chonnam National University Major Ambassador P·T Lecture Competition' this year. After preliminary rounds among ambassadors from 17 colleges, four teams competed in the finals, with the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (ambassador Kim Sehyun) taking first place, the College of Pharmacy (ambassador Jeong Seungeun) second, the College of Veterinary Medicine (ambassador Park Hyeran) third, and the College of Human Ecology (ambassador Yoon Donggyu) fourth, each receiving the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Encouragement Award, and Special Prize, respectively.
President Lee Geunbae stated, "The reason we elevated the Admissions Headquarters to the Admissions Office was to build people, not just buildings," and emphasized, "Jidaesa is a primer campaign for the Lee Jaemyung administration's 'Make 10 Seoul National Universities' pledge. Chonnam National University must seize this opportunity to advance together with the region toward the world and the future."
