"Committed to Establishing Essential Regional Healthcare
by Strengthening Expertise in Neurocritical Care"

Jang KyungSul, Director of the Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center at the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences in the Southeast region, is taking the lead in strengthening essential healthcare services in the region as he assumes leadership of the 'Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Korean Society of Neurocritical Care'.

The Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences in the Southeast region announced on July 11 that Director Jang was elected as the new president at the 2nd General Meeting of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Korean Society of Neurocritical Care, which was held at Changwon Hanmaeum Hospital on July 5. His term will last for two years, from July 7, 2025, to July 6, 2027.


President Jang is a veteran who previously served as Chief of Neurosurgery, Deputy Director of the Brain Hospital, and a tenured professor at Incheon St. Mary's Hospital, College of Medicine, Catholic University of Seoul. He holds multiple qualifications, including board certification in neurosurgery, subspecialty certification in critical care medicine, certification in stroke treatment, and certification in neurocritical care.


He has actively contributed to academic activities as a board member of both the Korean Society of Neurocritical Care and the Korean Society of Interventional Neuroradiology. In 2023, he was recognized with a commendation from the Commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, distinguishing himself in the fields of policy and standardization as well.


After joining the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences in the Southeast region in March 2025, President Jang successfully led the 'Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center Establishment Project' aimed at strengthening emergency and critical essential healthcare in the Gijang-gun area. Through this initiative, he established a rapid treatment system for patients with acute stroke and myocardial infarction, and is credited with helping to address gaps in local public healthcare.


In his inauguration speech, President Jang stated, "As the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences in the Southeast region leads public healthcare in the area, we will further enhance the expertise and systems for treating severe neurological diseases." He added, "Through academic conferences and educational programs, we will share the latest knowledge and technologies in neurocritical care medicine and take the lead in expanding essential healthcare services in the community."


Director Jang's appointment is expected to be a significant turning point for strengthening cooperation in critical care medicine and fostering specialized personnel in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions.
