Support for Low-Income Households Whose Livelihood Benefits Were Suspended Due to Earned Income
Welfare Safety Net for Self-Reliance... Pilot Operation Until Next Year
Gwangjin District in Seoul will launch the "Gwangjin Leap Income Support" program this month to help low-income households whose livelihood benefits have been suspended due to employment activities achieve stable self-reliance.
A significant number of households excluded from public assistance due to temporary increases in income still face vulnerable living conditions. There has been a consistent call for practical support to help these households avoid returning to benefit status.
In response, the district, in cooperation with the Gwangjin Welfare Foundation, has established the "Gwangjin Leap Income Support" program, which will provide partial income supplementation for a set period. The program will be operated on a pilot basis until December next year.
The program targets approximately 90 households whose livelihood benefits were suspended due to earned income and whose income remains at or below 50% of the median income. Selected households will receive between 100,000 won and up to 500,000 won per month, depending on household size, without the need for a separate application. The support period is up to one year, but payments may be suspended or terminated if the household exceeds the median income threshold or if there is no earned income.
This support program is a specialized initiative under the Gwangjin Welfare Foundation's "Embracing 200 Households" project and is funded through private donations. The district and the foundation plan to establish a close collaborative system to systematically manage the entire process, from selecting recipients to eligibility management and monitoring.
For more information about the program, contact the Social Welfare and Disability Division of Gwangjin District Office at 02-450-7523.
Kyungho Kim, Mayor of Gwangjin District Office, stated, "There are households whose lives become even more difficult when public benefits are suspended despite a slight increase in income from working hard. We are implementing this support program to help such residents continue on their path to self-reliance."
