Sale of 10 Million Common Shares via Block Deal
It has been confirmed that SK Ecoplant has disposed of a portion of its stake in Bloom Energy in the United States through an after-hours block deal.
According to industry sources on July 11, SK Ecoplant sold 10 million shares of Bloom Energy common stock via a block deal at $27.6 per share the previous day. The total sale amount is reported to be approximately $276 million (about 380 billion KRW).
Previously, SK Ecoplant formed a strategic partnership with Bloom Energy as it began to expand its power generation business using hydrogen fuel cells with zero carbon emissions. The company acquired shares in Bloom Energy twice, in 2021 and 2023. The shares sold this time were those purchased in 2021. Before the sale, SK Ecoplant reportedly held about a 10% stake in Bloom Energy.
It appears that SK Ecoplant proceeded with the sale in order to recover its investment as the lock-up period for its first investment expired. Earlier, SK Ecoplant and Bloom Energy established the joint venture Bloom SK Fuel Cell in 2020 and have been cooperating on localizing equipment and other initiatives. Even after this share sale, the company plans to continue collaborating on domestic and international fuel cell projects.
