The "Freedom Award" is a prestigious honor presented by the World League for Freedom and Democracy since 2001 to individuals who have contributed to the protection and expansion of liberal democracy. For this ceremony, KyungTaek Shin, President of the WLFD Gyeonggi Branch, presented the award on behalf of WLFD President Yao Eng-Chi.
Since taking office as the 8th popularly elected mayor, Mayor Bang has actively promoted the values of liberal democracy within the local community and has taken the lead in upholding the spirit of national defense and honoring patriots. In particular, he was highly recognized for renaming "Gyeongan Neighborhood Park" to "Patriots and Veterans Park," thereby contributing to fostering patriotism among citizens and commemorating the history of democracy.
Since his inauguration as the 8th popularly elected mayor of Gwangju City, Mayor SaeHwan Bang has led efforts to spread the values of liberal democracy in the community and to carry on the legacy of national defense and honoring patriots.
In particular, he received high praise for changing the name of Gyeongan Neighborhood Park to "Patriots and Veterans Park," which commemorated the region's history of defending democracy and helped cultivate patriotism among citizens.
Mayor SaeHwan Bang stated, "Receiving the Freedom Award was only possible thanks to the cooperation and dedication of Gwangju citizens and the members of the Korea Freedom Federation Gwangju Chapter," adding, "I will take on even greater responsibility in safeguarding liberal democracy and preparing for peaceful unification."
Meanwhile, the World League for Freedom and Democracy is an international organization established to spread the universal values of liberal democracy worldwide, with 139 member countries as of the article's publication date. The organization actively carries out various activities to protect and promote freedom and democracy, transcending race, nationality, and ideology.
