This contest was organized to allow citizens to directly choose the name of a new bridge set to become a landmark of Pohang, aiming to prevent confusion over the name and to establish an identity that reflects the region's uniqueness and symbolism.

The contest was held over 15 days from April 28 to May 12, and a total of 822 name submissions were received, demonstrating strong interest from citizens.

After an initial internal review, 11 candidates were shortlisted. Following an evaluation by the naming committee, five final candidates were selected: "Pohang Bridge," "Haeoreum Bridge," "Sangsaeng Bridge," "Haemaji Bridge," and "Ilwol Bridge."

Pohang City conducted an online survey among citizens on these names from July 2 to July 8, with a total of 882 participants.

As a result, "Haeoreum Bridge" received the highest support with 374 votes, followed by "Pohang Bridge" (218 votes), "Haemaji Bridge" (143 votes), "Sangsaeng Bridge" (111 votes), and "Ilwol Bridge" (36 votes).

When combining the survey results (40%) and the naming committee's evaluation scores (60%), "Haeoreum Bridge" achieved the highest total score and was selected as the winner. "Pohang Bridge" received the excellence award, while "Sangsaeng Bridge" and "Haemaji Bridge" each received encouragement awards.

The winning name, "Haeoreum Bridge," will be finalized after consultations with North Gyeongsang Province and a review by the naming committee. It will then be used in various materials, including bridge signage and city promotional content.

A Pohang City official stated, "This contest, in which citizens directly chose the name, was a meaningful process that enhanced local attachment and pride. We deeply appreciate the interest and participation of all citizens."

Dongbin Bridge (Haeoreum Bridge) is a 395-meter-long, four-lane bridge connecting the southern and northern districts of Pohang. Construction is underway with the goal of opening in November.
