It was belatedly revealed that the police have launched an investigation after a 20-month-old child was found in the water at an outdoor swimming pool in Hangang Park, Seoul.
According to the police and fire authorities on July 11, at around 6:40 p.m. on June 27, a 20-month-old foreign boy was found in a state of cardiac arrest after falling into water 1 meter deep at the outdoor swimming pool in Ttukseom Hangang Park, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. The boy was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away.
The police believe that the accident occurred while the boy's parents were briefly staying in a tent near the swimming pool. At the time of the accident, the swimming pool was preparing for nighttime operation, and access to the pool was restricted. However, there were no safety personnel stationed near the scene, and no CCTV cameras had been installed.
The Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul is currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, including questioning officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and representatives of the company entrusted with operating the swimming pool.
