Strengthening Support for Delivery Partner Safety
Coupang Eats Service (CES) announced on July 11 that it has expanded the coverage of its hourly motorcycle insurance in partnership with Lotte Insurance, in order to enhance the actual safety and rights of its delivery partners.
Coupang Eats Service has launched a "high-coverage hourly insurance" for motorcycles, strengthening insurance items in collaboration with Lotte Insurance. This was done by analyzing accident types and coverage gaps to better protect partners from various accidents that may occur during deliveries.
First, CES introduced a new "personal injury (self)" coverage with a maximum limit of 50 million won. In addition, property damage coverage has been increased from the previous 20 million won to up to 100 million won, a fivefold increase. This insurance is designed as an hourly policy costing about 800 won per hour, so coverage applies only to the actual delivery driving time.
The hourly insurance offers a more flexible structure compared to traditional fixed-rate insurance, allowing delivery partners who work for short periods to enroll without financial burden. Lotte Insurance's high-coverage hourly insurance can be subscribed to within the Coupang Eats delivery partner app. Additionally, partners may choose the hourly insurance provided by the Delivery Service Cooperative.
A Coupang Eats Service representative stated, "This new high-coverage hourly insurance for motorcycles is characterized by maximizing coverage while reducing the actual burden." The representative added, "Coupang Eats Service will continue to prioritize the protection of delivery partners, and will keep expanding policies focused on institutional improvements and practical effectiveness."
