Mokpo Coast Guard Secures Knife at the Scene in Jaewondo Waters, Shinan County
Suspect Booked on Attempted Murder Charges; Investigation Underway
A man in his 50s was apprehended by the Coast Guard after stabbing a colleague with a knife and injuring him while working together on a fishing boat.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard Station on July 11, a report was received at 7:19 p.m. on July 10 that a crew member was bleeding after being stabbed with a knife in waters 29 kilometers west of Jaewondo, Shinan County.
The Coast Guard situation room immediately dispatched nearby patrol units to the scene, where they found a crew member in his 40s, referred to as A, bleeding from his injuries.
At the time, A was reported to be in critical condition, suffering from a stab wound about 3 to 4 centimeters long on his right side and extremely low blood pressure. The Coast Guard activated the remote emergency medical system and, under a doctor's guidance, administered intravenous fluids and performed emergency treatment. A was then urgently transported to land and handed over to a fire department ambulance.
An on-site investigation confirmed that a fellow crew member in his 50s, referred to as B, had stabbed A with a knife while on board the same fishing vessel. The Coast Guard immediately arrested B and secured the weapon used in the crime.
The Mokpo Coast Guard Station has booked B on charges of attempted murder and is investigating the motive for the crime. Fortunately, the victim's life is not in danger.
