Pusan National University G-LAMP and Chinese Academy of Sciences Launch Joint Geology and Geophysics Research... Full-Scale Cooperation in Earthquake Prediction and Resource Development

The G-LAMP Project Group at Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) is joining forces with the Key Laboratory of Deep-Earth Probe and Intelligent Exploration and Development (KDPIED) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the world's largest scientific and technological research institution, to actively pursue Korea-China joint research in earthquake prediction and underground resource development.

G-LAMP stands for Global-Learning & Academic Research Institution for Master's, PhD Students, and Postdocs.

On July 11, Pusan National University announced, "The G-LAMP Project Group and KDPIED under CAS signed a memorandum of understanding in Beijing, China, on July 10, for Korea-China joint research and personnel exchange."

This agreement aims to strengthen collaborative research between the two countries in the fields of changes in deep-Earth materials due to climate change, geology, and geophysics. With the signing of the MOU, the two institutions will establish a comprehensive cooperation system, including mutual researcher visits, graduate student exchanges, joint academic events, and the joint publication of research outcomes.

CAS, established in 1949, is a world-leading comprehensive scientific and technological research institution and has ranked first in global research influence for two consecutive years according to the Nature Index. KDPIED, a core research institute under CAS, has accumulated world-class research achievements in advanced fields such as seismology, geophysical exploration, underground resource development, and carbon neutrality.

Jung Jaehoon, head of the G-LAMP Project Group (professor in the Department of Molecular Biology), stated, "The agreement with CAS will not only enhance our technological response capabilities to changes in the global environment, but will also serve as an opportunity to significantly expand Pusan National University's global research capacity." He added, "We look forward to innovative achievements through joint research in the field of earth sciences."

On the day the agreement was signed, a joint symposium was also held at the KDPIED headquarters, attended by researchers from both the G-LAMP Project Group at Pusan National University and KDPIED. The symposium focused on advanced topics such as earthquake prediction technology, deep-Earth exploration, and carbon storage, with discussions on ways to strengthen cooperation.
