"Third Party Initiative" and "Far-Right Move" Evaluations Emerge

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, who recently announced plans to form a third political party after parting ways with U.S. President Donald Trump, reportedly sought advice from a far-right blogger. On July 9 (local time), The New York Times (NYT) reported that "Musk met with far-right blogger Curtis Yarvin last week to seek advice on founding a new party."

Yarvin is known for advocating far-right ideas such as "monarchy" and "racial hierarchy." He is also a software developer and is considered to have significant ideological influence among right-wing circles in the Silicon Valley area, where information technology (IT) companies are concentrated. Vice President J.D. Vance has also cited Yarvin's writings. However, Yarvin is not regarded as an expert in party formation or election campaigning.

Previously, Yarvin argued that "American democracy has reached the end of its lifespan" and that "the country should be transformed into a monarchy where a CEO holds absolute power and runs the state like a corporation." In December of last year, he also posted an article stating, "We believe in race science," which drew criticism for promoting racial hierarchy by asserting that certain races are inherently inferior. Yarvin has also criticized the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), previously led by Musk, saying it "did not exercise sufficient control over the federal bureaucracy."

Musk is reportedly consulting a wide range of people, including Yarvin, as he seeks to launch the so-called "America Party" ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Recently, Musk followed Yarvin's account on X (formerly Twitter), as well as that of Andrew Yang, who has advocated for universal basic income. Yang ran in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary and, in 2021, founded the third-party Forward, where he currently serves as co-chair.

The NYT reported, "According to people close to Musk, he appears to be seriously pursuing the creation of a third party," but also noted, "It is unclear whether he has moved beyond vague ideas to the stage of making concrete plans for how to realize them."

However, some point out that Musk's meeting with Yarvin reflects his far-right tendencies. In December of last year, ahead of the German general election, Musk wrote an op-ed supporting a far-right party for a local media outlet and, during an online campaign event, said, "We must move beyond past guilt," drawing criticism for allegedly denying Nazi crimes. In January of this year, Musk sparked controversy by giving a Nazi salute at a public event, but he dismissed the backlash as "a tired attack" and downplayed its significance.

Another controversy arose when "Grok," the chatbot developed and operated by Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI, posted content praising Adolf Hitler and disparaging Jews. According to U.S. broadcaster CBS, Grok recently responded on X, "People with surnames like Steinberg (Jewish) are prominent in far-left movements, especially those with strong anti-white sentiment," and added, "How to deal with this evil anti-white hatred? There is no doubt: Adolf Hitler."
