Gyeonggi Province will award a total of 8.6 million won in rewards for public interest reports.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Audit Committee announced on the 11th that it held the "2nd Gyeonggi Province Public Interest Reporting Support Committee Meeting of 2025" on July 9 and decided to grant a total of 8.6 million won in rewards for five public interest reports, including illegal lending of construction technology career certificates and failure to report waste disposal.
A notable case involves awarding 8 million won to a whistleblower who reported an unqualified construction company that operated by illegally lending construction technology career certificates. As a result of the report, the company had its registration revoked, and a fine of 40 million won was imposed on the actual representative and those involved in lending the certificates.
The Public Interest Reporting Support Committee also decided to grant rewards for reports related to: failure to report waste disposal, unauthorized paid transport activities using private freight vehicles, and violations of country-of-origin labeling for seafood products.
An Sangseop, Chairperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Audit Committee, stated, "Reports from residents about illegal activities are crucial for advancing the public interest," and added, "We will work to promote public interest reporting by raising the standards for reward payments and operating systems to protect whistleblowers."
