Somi Lee Shoots 4 Under Par... Lays Foundation for Back-to-Back Wins

Tied for 7th in the First Round of the Amundi Evian Championship
Andrea Lee Shares Lead, Minjee Lee Starts in 6th

Somi Lee has laid the foundation for back-to-back victories in two consecutive tournaments.

On July 10 (local time), at the Evian Resort Golf Club (par 71, 6,504 yards) in Evian-les-Bains, France, Somi Lee shot a 4-under-par 67 in the first round of the Amundi Evian Championship, a major tournament on the LPGA Tour with a total prize fund of $8 million, finishing tied for seventh place. She is two shots behind the co-leaders, Andrea Lee of the United States and Grace Kim of Australia, who both carded a 6-under-par 65.

Starting on the 10th hole (par 4), Somi Lee recorded one eagle, four birdies, and two bogeys. She got off to a strong start with consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, but then lost one stroke over the next nine holes and slowed down. However, after making an eagle on the 7th hole and adding another birdie on the final 9th hole (both par 5s), she climbed back up the leaderboard. Her precise shots, missing only two fairways and three greens, powered her performance. Two weeks ago, Somi Lee claimed her first career victory at the Dow Championship, a two-player team event, partnering with Jinhee Im.

Minjee Lee of Australia is in sixth place (5-under-par 66), while Hyejin Choi and Nelly Korda of the United States are among the group tied for seventh. Yoon Ina is tied for 16th (3-under-par 68), Ji Eun Shin is tied for 23rd (2-under-par 69), and Jinhee Im, Jin Young Ko, and In Gee Chun are tied for 33rd (1-under-par 70). Hyo Joo Kim and Arim Kim are tied for 43rd (even-par 71), Hee Young Yang is tied for 57th (1-over-par 72), Lydia Ko of New Zealand is tied for 76th (2-over-par 73), Yumin Hwang is tied for 105th (4-over-par 75), and Haeran Yu is in 128th place (8-over-par 79).
