"Hole in the Ground"... Sinkholes Reported for Third Consecutive Day in Seo-gu, Incheon

Restoration Work to Proceed After Investigation
Into Sinkhole Causes

For three consecutive days, sinkholes have appeared in Seo-gu, Incheon, prompting the local government to take action.

According to the Incheon Seobu Police Station and other authorities, at approximately 1:44 p.m. on July 10, a report was received via the 112 emergency line stating that "there is a hole in the ground" on a road in Dangha-dong, Seo-gu.

Police and fire authorities who responded to the scene discovered a sinkhole measuring 50 centimeters in diameter and 1 meter in depth, and implemented safety measures at the site. Fortunately, there were no casualties caused by the sinkhole. However, traffic was partially restricted in the third lane of the four-lane one-way road. The accident site was found to be only 400 meters away from the location where another sinkhole, measuring 30 centimeters in diameter and 1 meter in depth, had occurred the previous day.

On July 8, a sinkhole measuring 2 meters in diameter and 2.5 meters in depth appeared on a road in Seoknam-dong, Seo-gu, resulting in the closure of surrounding roads. This marked the third consecutive day that a sinkhole had been reported in the district. Investigations revealed that the Seoknam-dong sinkhole was caused by damage to an underground sewage collector pipe, and as of July 10, restoration work had been completed.

The Incheon city government and Seo-gu authorities plan to investigate the cause and any potential connection between the sinkholes in Dangha-dong before proceeding with restoration work.
