Baemin Implements Rider Safety Measures Amid Record Heatwave... Health Checkups Supported Starting Next Week

100,000 Bottles of Water Distributed This Year

As the heatwave continues day after day, delivery platforms are implementing safety measures for riders. This is a particularly important time to manage the health and safety of riders, who must work while exposed to extreme heat. Baemin plans to implement additional heatwave safety measures, starting with health checkups for riders, in addition to its existing campaigns.

On July 11, Woowa Brothers, the company responsible for Baemin's logistics services, announced that starting next week, they will support cardiovascular function tests for riders at the Gachon University Gil Hospital National Health Screening Center for two weeks. This program was developed as a result of discussions by the Rider Safety Management Committee, a professional body established this year to create a safer delivery environment. The committee, chaired by outside expert Professor Kang Sungkyu of Gachon University Gil Hospital, expressed concerns that riders, due to frequent outdoor activities in hot weather, are at risk of sudden brain or heart diseases. As a result, riders aged 50 and older, who are classified as a high-risk group, will be eligible for cardiovascular function tests. Baemin will notify eligible riders through the Baemin Connect app and will support tests for the first 100 applicants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Baemin is also providing riders with supplies that offer practical help for summer delivery activities. These include cooling arm sleeves, cool seat covers, summer gloves, balaclavas, and raincoats, with recent expansions to high-performance clothing items. Baemin has been supporting riders with summer supplies for five consecutive years since 2021, with the total number of items provided reaching 50,000 to date. The company also participated in the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "Bottled Water Sharing Campaign" for mobile workers, distributing 100,000 bottles of water this year.

Baemin is also preparing the "Delivery Safety 365 Campaign," which provides coffee trucks and other amenities to encourage summer rest for delivery riders, in collaboration with government agencies such as the Ministry of Employment and Labor. This year, the coffee truck will operate sequentially during the last week of July to benefit more riders during the peak summer season, allowing them to take breaks during the hottest hours. Baemin is also providing some Baemin B Mart locations as rest areas for riders, stocking them with support supplies. Riders can check the status and locations of these rest areas through the Baemin Connect app.

Additionally, Baemin has made materials on heatwave response, prepared by the Baemin Rider School, a specialized motorcycle training institution, available online anytime and anywhere. This is part of the "Woowa Delivery Encyclopedia," which comprehensively covers safe delivery methods and information. The seasonal safety delivery guidebook section allows riders to quickly and easily learn about heatwave countermeasures. A Baemin representative stated, "We are preparing support measures to ensure the health and safe operation of riders, who inevitably face long hours in outdoor environments during this summer's heatwave," and added, "We will continue to run effective safety support campaigns for our rider partners to promote mutual growth."
