On July 10, Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul and Cheongdo-gun in Gyeongsangbuk-do announced that they had signed a sisterhood agreement at Cheongdo County Office, establishing a foundation for sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two regions.

This sisterhood agreement goes beyond simple friendly exchanges and focuses on establishing a practical foundation for cooperation in various fields, including administration, culture, tourism, and the economy. In particular, the two regions will promote direct transactions and distribution of agricultural specialty products, jointly promote tourism resources and operate experiential programs, and pursue effective cooperative projects in areas such as culture, administration, and education.
After the agreement ceremony, the Dongdaemun-gu delegation visited 'Sinhwarang Pungnyu Village,' a major tourist attraction in Cheongdo-gun, where they experienced the region's historical and cultural content firsthand and explored concrete possibilities for complementary cooperation between urban and rural areas.
Pilhyung Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "The sisterhood agreement with Cheongdo-gun is an important starting point for sharing the strengths of both urban and rural areas and for practical exchanges that residents can truly experience," adding, "We will continue to build cooperative relationships in various fields for sustainable, mutually beneficial development."
Kim Hasu, Governor of Cheongdo-gun, emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and cooperation, saying, "I am pleased that the sisterhood agreement with Dongdaemun-gu has created an opportunity for joint development in various fields, including agricultural specialty products, tourism, and culture."
With this agreement, Dongdaemun-gu plans to maintain ongoing communication and working-level consultations with Cheongdo-gun, creating an exchange model for joint regional growth.
The agreement ceremony at Cheongdo County Office was attended by Pilhyung Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu; Kim Hasu, Governor of Cheongdo-gun; Taein Lee, Chairman of the Dongdaemun District Council; Jeon Jongyul, Chairman of the Cheongdo County Council; and about 50 officials from both institutions.
Meanwhile, Dongdaemun-gu has established sisterhood relationships and continues active exchanges not only with 12 domestic local governments, including Namhae-gun in Gyeongnam, Naju-si in Jeonnam, and Jecheon-si in Chungbuk, but also with Yanqing District in Beijing, China, and Toshima City in Tokyo, Japan.
