Joint Submission by ROM Architects and Jaera Architects
A Sustainable Welfare Space Created Together with Residents
Ulju-gun in Ulsan (Governor Lee Sunho) announced on July 10 that the joint submission "A Home for All" by ROM Architects and Jaera Architects was selected as the winning design proposal for the extension of the Sangbuk-myeon Administrative Welfare Center.
This design competition was part of a project to build a separate extension in order to provide safer and more pleasant welfare spaces for the residents of Sangbuk-myeon. Submissions were accepted from April 14, and a total of nine entries were received.
The county comprehensively evaluated functionality, spatial efficiency, harmony of design, and sustainability, and selected "A Home for All" as the top entry. The winner will be granted the right to carry out the basic and detailed design, while other outstanding entries will be awarded prizes in the categories of top excellence, excellence, and encouragement.
On the same day, Ulju-gun held a resident briefing session at the Sangbuk-myeon Administrative Welfare Center to present the winning design, share opinions, and communicate with residents about the future direction of facility operations.
The extension project for the Sangbuk-myeon Administrative Welfare Center will be carried out with a total project budget of 5.8 billion KRW (with a planned construction cost of 3.8 billion KRW and a design fee of 210 million KRW). The new building will be a two-story structure with a total floor area of 700.32 square meters. It will include a small library as well as various program rooms for calligraphy, Korean literary painting, tea ceremony, and more. It is expected to serve as a central hub for cultural and leisure activities for local residents.
Ulju-gun plans to complete the design by November and begin construction in December.
A county official stated, "This design competition marks an important first step in creating welfare spaces that enhance residents' quality of life," and added, "We will build a trusted Ulju-gun administration by creating administrative spaces that reflect the opinions of our residents."
