On the 10th, Gwangmyeong City held the "2025 Apartment Community Revitalization Forum" in the city hall's main conference room under the theme "Why Apartment Communities Now?"
The city explained that the forum was organized because the proportion of apartment housing in the city has surpassed 70% due to large-scale redevelopment and reconstruction. This has led to communication breakdowns among neighbors and isolated residential environments, increasing the need to address these issues and foster a sustainable community culture.
Approximately 70 participants attended the forum, including representatives of apartment resident councils, management office staff, and community activists, to explore ways to restore community ties.
At the forum, Kwon Myunghee, professor of housing environment at Ulsan University and head of the Korea Apartment Community Forum Research Institute, discussed the social significance and effects of communities in a presentation titled "Formation and Effects of Apartment Community Culture."
This was followed by case presentations: "Making a Village at Woorim Pil Yu Townhouse" by Jeon Jaehyun, manager of Hwaseong City; "From Our Complex to the Village" by Lee Hyunseon, head of the Ansan City Village Making Support Center; and "A Village Community Excited by People" by Jung Inae, director of the Neolbeun Sesang Small Library in Gwangmyeong City.
Kim Minjae, head of the Gwangmyeong City Village Autonomy Center, explained the city's apartment community policies and support measures. Professor Kwon served as moderator, leading a discussion with the presenters on topics such as institutional foundations, the roles of various stakeholders, and cooperation models.
Park Seungwon, mayor of Gwangmyeong City, stated, "A community culture where consideration and communication among neighbors are alive is the core value that ensures a sustainable future for Gwangmyeong and improves the quality of life for citizens. The power of a community that understands and connects with one another will make Gwangmyeong even stronger."
