Starting August 1, city bus fares in Gimhae, Gyeongnam will increase by 200 won for adults and by 100 won for youth and children.
Gimhae City announced on July 10 that, following a review by the Gyeongnam Province Consumer Policy Committee in April and in accordance with Gyeongnam Province's decision on city bus fares and rates, it will raise fares for the first time in five years and seven months since January 2020.
This decision was made due to several independent factors: rising personnel costs for city bus workers, inflation, and an overall increase in maintenance and operational costs for buses, all of which have intensified the financial difficulties faced by the transportation industry.
As a result, the standard adult fare will rise from 1,500 won to 1,700 won for cash payments, and from 1,450 won to 1,650 won for card payments.
Youth fares will increase from 1,000 won to 1,100 won for cash, and from 950 won to 1,050 won for card payments. Children's fares will rise from 750 won to 850 won for cash payments.
However, seniors aged 75 and older using the Gyeongnam Pass, as well as children aged 12 and under using a transportation card, will continue to ride for free under Gimhae City's city bus free fare policy for children, and will not be affected by the fare increase.
A city official stated, "By making transfers to Busan city buses, which currently cost 500 won, free in the future, we aim to reduce the burden of using public transportation, improve overall city bus service, and increase citizen satisfaction."
