Hyupsung Tower to Serve as Annex... Just a 2-Minute Walk Away
Relocation of Entire Organization Targeted for Completion Within This Year
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has finalized the locations for its new headquarters in Busan. The main office will be housed in the IM Building in Dong-gu, Busan, while the annex will be located in the nearby Hyupsung Tower. The government plans to expedite administrative procedures and space preparations, aiming to complete the relocation within this year.
On July 10, the Ministry stated, "We have selected the IM Building and Hyupsung Tower as the new office locations," adding, "Among several buildings recommended by Busan City, we made this decision after on-site inspections and gathering internal and external opinions, based on criteria such as the ability to accommodate approximately 850 headquarters staff, feasibility of relocation within the year, and accessibility for civil affairs."
The newly designated IM Building is located near Busanjin Station on Busan Subway Line 1, just two stops from Busan Station. Completed in 1995, the building will be used in its entirety, covering a dedicated area of 12,208 square meters across 19 floors.
The Hyupsung Tower, to be used as the annex, is a one to two-minute walk from the IM Building and is situated within the same subway area. Completed in 2007, six out of its fifteen floors will be utilized, with a dedicated area of 3,275 square meters. The ease of using both buildings in conjunction was also a positive factor in the selection process.
The Ministry plans to swiftly complete design and construction after going through necessary administrative procedures, such as reflecting the relocation in the office supply management plan and securing the relocation budget, with the goal of moving the entire organization within this year.
Kim Sungbeom, Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries and head of the relocation planning task force, stated, "A swift relocation of the Ministry to Busan is necessary to lead the era of the Arctic route and to create a new growth engine for the Republic of Korea," adding, "We will also ensure that housing and settlement support measures are in place so that staff can quickly adapt to their new roles."
