Following the re-arrest of former President Yoon Suk-yeol in the early hours of July 10, updates have emerged regarding the current situation of Cho Kuk, the former leader of the Innovation Party, who is being held at Seoul Southern Detention Center.
On July 9, Hwang Hyunseon, Secretary General of the Innovation Party, shared a conversation he had with former Representative Cho during a recent visit, posting the details on his Facebook page. According to Hwang, Cho has been receiving many letters expressing concern over the hot weather and rumors of rapid weight loss. Cho explained that he has lost about 3 kilograms, but attributed this to unintended "intermittent fasting."
He stated that since dinner at the detention center is served at 5:30 p.m., and there is a fasting period of over 12 hours until breakfast the next day, his weight has naturally decreased. In addition, he mentioned that, unlike when he was outside, he can no longer read or write until dawn (lights out is at 9:30 p.m.), which has allowed him to get sufficient sleep. Cho emphasized that his health is fine, reportedly telling people not to worry two or three times.
However, Cho noted that due to the heat, he now wakes up two or three times during the night. When this happens, he wipes his body with a towel soaked in water to cool down before trying to sleep again.
