Busan City is joining forces with Gyeongsangnam-do Province and five medical schools in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions to establish a cooperative system for the training of local medical talent.

On July 10, Busan City announced that on July 9, it had signed a "Business Agreement for the Training of Local Medical Talent" with Gyeongnam Province and five medical schools: Busan National University, Inje University, Kosin University, Dong-A University, and Gyeongsang National University.

This agreement was promoted with the aim of fostering outstanding local medical professionals and laying the foundation for a regionally self-sufficient healthcare system through a community-centered cooperative framework.

Under the agreement, the seven institutions will form an educational consultative body for the training of local medical talent and engage in mutual cooperation, including education and practical training at public medical institutions within the region. They plan to discuss ways to improve the educational environment in connection with the Regional Innovation System for University Support (RISE) and jointly operate practical training programs to enhance understanding of public health care and essential regional medical systems.

The participants in the agreement expressed strong consensus on the necessity of a regionally self-sufficient healthcare system. They agreed that it is essential to create a medical environment where everyone can receive care quickly and with peace of mind, and that it is important to establish a foundation for locally trained medical professionals to settle and work in the region.

Due to the concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area, a shortage of medical personnel, and aging population, the medical environment in the region is deteriorating. In particular, the gaps in pediatric, maternity, and emergency care are becoming increasingly severe. As a result, it has been pointed out that it is essential to systematically train region-based medical talent through field-oriented curricula and to create an environment that enables them to remain in the region.

Cho Gyuyul, Director of the Busan City Citizens' Health Bureau, emphasized, "This agreement is an important turning point for the future of local healthcare," and added, "We will continue to build a robust and sustainable system for nurturing medical professionals so that those who study in the region can also work in the region."
