Gyeongsangnam-do Mayors and County Governors Association Holds Regular Meeting in Gimhae

Gathering in Gimhae to Discuss the Development of Gyeongnam

The Gyeongsangnam-do Mayors and County Governors Association announced on July 10 that it held the 96th regular meeting at Lotte Hotel & Resort Gimhae, with 17 mayors and county governors from across Gyeongsangnam-do in attendance.

This meeting was presided over by Cho Kyu-il, the mayor of Jinju and the chair of the association. It served as a meaningful occasion for sharing current issues facing each city and county, as well as discussing joint response strategies.

During the meeting, participants shared the outcomes of the 3rd and 4th co-chair meetings of the 3rd year of the 8th term of the Korea Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads Association, as well as the results of handling the proposals from the 95th regular meeting of the Gyeongnam Mayors and County Governors Association, which was held in Haman on February 25 last year. In addition, nine proposals were reviewed and approved, including a request to restore national funding for local waterworks transition projects.

The approved proposals, which address institutional challenges faced by each city and county and include policy suggestions to improve the quality of life for local residents, will be submitted to the central government through the Korea Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads Association.

Furthermore, the cities and counties agreed to cooperate in promoting various events, including the '2025 Korea Invitational Jinju International Women's Volleyball Tournament,' the '64th Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival,' and the '22nd Sacheon Samcheonpo Port Wild Gizzard Shad Festival.'

In his remarks, Chair Cho Kyu-il stated, "Gyeongnam is a region with diverse possibilities and great potential. Only by joining forces can cities and counties bring about real change," and he asked for the continued interest and cooperation of all mayors and county governors so that the association can play a central role in driving Gyeongnam's development.

Meanwhile, the Gyeongsangnam-do Mayors and County Governors Association holds regular meetings on a quarterly basis, rotating among the cities and counties in the province to jointly address local issues, promote the development of local autonomy, and enhance cooperation between cities and counties.
