Kang Jeonae and Kim Junil: "He Himself Is Confident"
Kim Junil: "Close Advisors Are Strongly Dissuading Him"
Kang Jeonae: "Strong Desire to Run, Likely to Announce Candidacy"
On the 9th, Kang Jeonae, spokesperson for the People Power Party, and Kim Junil, current affairs commentator, are having a discussion on the issue, hosted by So Jongsup, political specialist.
Kim Junil: There is a greater possibility that Han Donghoon will not run. As he meets with various people and listens to their opinions, about 70% advise him not to run, while 30% say otherwise. However, he himself is very confident. His comment is along the lines of, "If I run, I will win, so should I really not run?" He seems to believe that if he runs, he can change the party and win the local elections as well. However, there are many people around him, such as former lawmaker Shin Jiho and former spokesperson Yoon Heeseok, who strongly dissuade him from running.
He will probably maintain ambiguity until just a few days before the candidate registration. Former minister Kim Moonsu seems more likely to run. Having been a presidential candidate, his favorability is currently high, but as time passes, that favorability gradually fades. Now is the best opportunity. If he runs, even if pro-Yoon supporters do not back him, Kim Moonsu will still become the candidate. It is not easy for someone to abandon a candidate they have already voted for, because that creates cognitive dissonance about their own judgment. Taking all this into account, if former minister Kim Moonsu runs this time, he will succeed.

Kang Jeonae: (Regarding former minister Kim Moonsu) I think former lawmaker Kim Jaewon will do whatever it takes to get him to run. I have heard that former leader Han Donghoon himself wants to run. When several people meet together, some say he should not run, while others say he should, and he keeps asking questions to those who say he should run. Based on this, it seems that Han himself has a very strong desire to run. It appears that many around him are saying that now is not the time, but isn't Han Donghoon someone who straightforwardly does what he wants? Han will run.
If he does not run in this party convention, will he run in next year's local elections, or do something else? There is no election right now, and he cannot just keep doing YouTube. Even on YouTube, he is not discussing policy issues, but rather lighter topics. By doing YouTube, he is actually damaging the image he has built up so far. It is good to communicate with the public, but Han is not an entertainer. As a politician, he needs to show the public his capabilities and sense of efficacy, but the YouTube format seems inappropriate for that.
