John Lee Attends SPACETIDE 2025 Panel Discussion
Visits JAXA to Explore Research Management and Cooperation Strategies
The Space Agency participated in the "SPACETIDE" event to expand its foundation for global cooperation and to lead the era of a space economy driven by the private sector.
The agency announced that John Lee, Director of the Space Mission Headquarters, attended "SPACETIDE 2025," which was held in Tokyo, Japan, on July 10 as the agency’s representative.
SPACETIDE is an international space business event held annually in Tokyo, where space industry professionals from around the world gather to share the latest trends and visions in the space sector and discuss opportunities for collaboration. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the event took place over four days from July 7 to July 10, with more than 1,800 participants from over 35 countries in the space industry.
John Lee, Director at the Space Agency, participated as a panelist in the "Track A-2: Growth Strategy" session, alongside Jonathan Hung, Secretary-General of the Singapore Space and Technology Limited, Damrongrit Niammuad, Executive Director of the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency of Thailand, and Leo Bremanis, Executive Director of the Tokyo Trade Office at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission. The panel discussion was held under the theme "APAC's Space Boom Fueled by Fiery Commercial Policies."
John Lee stated, "The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region already possesses notable strengths in terms of market size and geographic diversity, based on its rapidly growing space market economy. Now, rather than pursuing fragmented efforts, we should shift to a cooperation-centered strategy for shared growth. Korea will continue to collaborate to help shape this future together."
On July 9, prior to the event, the Space Agency visited the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to exchange information and discuss cooperation on systems and performance management strategies for successfully transferring national research and development achievements to the private sector, as well as the policy direction of private-led space development and the role of government.
John Lee said, "We reaffirmed our cooperative relationships with major space organizations and clarified the direction for multilateral cooperation. Based on this, the Space Agency will serve as a hub for public-private partnerships at home and abroad, expand the space industry, and accelerate entry into the global space economy."
