Invited to International Competition
"My Heart is Fluttering"
On July 10, film distributor At9Film announced that the movie "Travel and Days," starring actress Shim Eun-kyung, has been invited to the International Competition section of the Locarno Film Festival.
This is the latest work by director Sho Miyake, who was invited to the Berlin International Film Festival for three consecutive years with "And Your Bird Can Sing," "If You Look at Me," and "All the Things We Never Said." Shim Eun-kyung, who is also active in Japan, teamed up with Tsutsumi Shinichi, raising anticipation for the film even before production began.
The original works are masterpieces of manga by Tsuge Yoshiharu: "Seaside Scenery" and "Monsieur Honyarado." The film leads audiences on a journey where the ordinary and the extraordinary intersect, through winter snow scenes and summer beach landscapes. It is scheduled to be released in Korea this winter.
The Locarno Film Festival selection committee described the film as "a work that showcases the highest level of Japanese cinema," adding, "It is philosophical without being pretentious, dreamy yet firmly grounded in reality. The film quietly contemplates what life is, why we choose certain paths, and how encounters become a part of our existence." The committee also praised the film, saying, "It very delicately and deeply portrays the essence of humanity."
Shim Eun-kyung shared her thoughts, saying, "My heart is fluttering at the thought of presenting this work on the precious stage of the Locarno Film Festival." Director Sho Miyake remarked, "The Locarno Film Festival was the first international film festival I ever attended," and added, "I am happy and grateful for the opportunity to return after more than ten years."
